Character Discussion Does anyone genuinely like Shanks as a character

#1
Agenda wars/powerscaling aside does anyone actually enjoy Shanks’ character? There’s literally nothing to him except to be an always good, always glazed Mary Sue. The only time I was ever interested in Shanks was after 909 but turns out that was just his evil twin because Shanks is always good, always right, always beloved, etc.

That’s not small stuff that’s their entire character which has nuance. Shanks is a solo leveling character
Mihawk is Solo Leveling character: Always strong, want to aura farm, composed and dramatic, etc.

Shanks on the other hand:
- panicked when Luffy was in danger
- can be serious with the prospect of Mihawk challenging him, but can be fun and partying once he hear good news
- Confirm Kidd being healthy/healed, then showed no mercy after
- being cautious about Blackbeard, but then challenged him at Marineford
- had some mysterious motive regarding Gomu2 / Nika fruit
- also has some motive regarding One Piece / wanted to chase the One Piece after Kaidou and BM fall
- is a coward from Loki's words
- etc2

So Shanks has many aspects/facets regarding his character, not just him being good or strong.

Which one of the twins are you talking about?

Shanks' fat crewmate deadass headshot a current usop level character in the first chapters of the manga. Shanks could've avoided it by just CoCing him out btw.
Shanks annihilated an entire pirate crew with the priority of getting their poneglyph papers beforehand.
Shanks pulled a cruel poison scheme to trick and humiliate another pirate crew shortly after that as well. (btw Roger died due to an unknown illness).

He's as calculating and cold as any other pirate and who knows how many corpses the RHPs have at bikini bottom.

In fact, Shanks must turn extra evil even for plot's sake. Anything else would be Fairy Tail copy. No matter who came first.

Both twins are evil. One studied in MJ Harward University, one studied in the streets.

When did I ever say I liked Mihawk. And Mihawk isn’t glazed by the author like shanks is. Mihawk is also poorly written Oda can’t decide if he’s looking for a great fight like Kaido or wants a peaceful life in Crocodil’s Utopia. Many characters are just carried by hype and aura.

All the traits you listed are bare bones, he cares about his friends, he is always fair in fights, always calm and can see th bigger pictur, etc. not a single character flaw

No way you can look at the Kidd incident as anything but Oda glazing Shanks. Shanks makes sure that Kidd is 100% and doesn’t want to fight him injured, Kidd attacks first, Shanks only acts after using future sight to defend his weak crew.

I like him. I don’t really see him as this infallible or perfect character the way a lot of people do. From a characterization standpoint, I think he’s kind of misunderstood. He’s definitely extremely strong, but I don’t think he’s flawless or always right. He’s made mistakes with Harald, with Uta, with Buggy… and more generally I see him as someone who can be wrong and act on bad calls like anyone else.

His relationship with Buggy is probably what I like the most about the character, I really enjoy it.

I like the depressed Shanks the most, the one who gave up all his dreams to carry some kind of burden or responsibility.

Uta isn’t canon
