Character Discussion Does anyone genuinely like Shanks as a character

No way you can look at the Kidd incident as anything but Oda glazing Shanks. Shanks makes sure that Kidd is 100% and doesn’t want to fight him injured, Kidd attacks first, Shanks only acts after using future sight to defend his weak crew.

Shanks does not have any poneglyphs. Shanks does not take action to acquire the OP.

Shanks does have poneglyph copies. Shanks starts his move to acquire the OP.

You can't tell me he didn't care at all for the poneglyphs. There's a reason he was chilling in a location directly reachable from Wano. It's literally the same Teach did btw.

I like the idea of Shanks. Easily the second most important character and we still don't really know him. He's from chapter one and every answer creates a question. 1180 chapters in, that's pretty nuts.

I like certain moments with Shanks. His speech at Whitebeard’s funeral (really “thoughts” since he didn’t say them out loud) is one of the best character moments in the series.

What Oda has done with the whole Figarland thing is so poorly done that it kills any continuing interest in the character.

Shanks is not the perfect pure boy, he is willing to take some lifes, we see him recentry do this with kid and his crew,

I happened to see some reddit complaint about how Shanks didn't respond to the offer to take all the rubbings and... lol. The only reason he wouldn't, after announcing that he's going for the OP, is if he already has them. Very much a non issue

When you aren't 12, it becomes very easy to filter the retarded overglazing and you can just enjoy the character for what he is.

My personal opinion , I will always find it hard to enjoy characters like that . Please see my tag on another series . guess its a universal thing.

Honestly, I think if you hate Shanks then you should hate all of the Straw Hats too since they all have their own little goody goody gimmicks.

I enjoy Shanks' character.
He is a Gary Tsu, but cliches are cliches because they work.
Of course, a Gary Tsu can be done badly, but I think Oda handled Shanks well.

I always like characters that the MCs look up to, and follow.
That's why I also like Minato from Naruto.

I guess my taste is just different.

Also Shanks has an aura and mystery around him that no other character has imo
