It is pretty obvious that there is a lack of editorial direction in the last few years (I would said since WCI). As genius as Oda can be, he still need people to say no and to question his plans.
Iirc he himself complained about the fact that most people don’t share their real opinion to him.

What’s the symbolism behind 9? Why 9 red scabbards? Why not 6? Why not 7? Seven is a better number and more symbolic. The Seven Red Scabbards is more alliterative in English at least. As is Six. The word scabbard in Japanese is Akazaya. The Akaroku Ronin the Six Red Ronin sounds better too.

I'm glad you point that out since it is something people failed to understand it seems.

Imu confused joyboy for Luffy here. Simply because, like Zou, Luffy reminds him of that. But Imu only is in this state of mind because of this:

Imu seems to be confusing the present and the past.

He thinks Joyboy escaped because he felt that. As such he has been inprinting Joyboy on Luffy since this moment. But until this moment, Luffy was more of a big threat.
