General & Others One Piece is by far one of the best pieces of literature yet

Hey, I want to start this dialogue

One Piece is sometimes poked fun at, that it's not on the level of Shakespeare and things like that, but imo, One Piece is by far one of the best pieces of literature created yet, far above Shakespeare.

Why?

Personally I haven't read Shakespeare, but at what other time in history was there a piece of literature that was so long running, so fun to talk about, with discussions happening over internet forums, several social medias, and youtube?

Other pieces of literature, like Shakespeare's writing, may or may not be better written, but the experience of One Piece is far far better than anything that came before it due to the age it's in.

Out of curiosity what other works of literature have you consumed?

I disagree. The writing is fucking terrible most of the time and none of the main characters have any development after 1100 chapters. Half of the manga is full of reaction panels. Nico Robin hasn't done a damn thing since Enies Lobby. Neither has Franky. Zoro is under-developed for a guy that is #2 to Luffy. The story is all over the place and there are too many side characters. Oda has a great imagination, but I wouldn't call this one of the more superior or "best" pieces of literature. its a messy and incoherent masterpiece.

Is malazan as good as the silmarillion?
it's leagues better imo. It reads more as an actual story than a history book, though I love the Silmarillion as well, but I've always enjoyed the LOTR books more.

the world of Malazan is massively large with all sorts of moving parts and history that perfectly illustrate it's themes.

Not a relevant question. I have a better question for you :

How many pieces of storytelling have you ever really analyzed?

"OuT Of CuRiOsItY" of course
i got my phd in analyzing the story of Family Guy

I can agree if we're talking scale, worldbuilding and investment. The internet plays a role as well, through theories, discussions, forums, and weekly hype which older literature couldn’t. But that doesn’t automatically make it “better literature” than Shakespeare. His reputation comes from linguistic innovation, psychological and poetic complexity. His influence on literature and language across centuries can't be ignored either.

I can't confidently say something is “far above” all other literature without having an expert level frame of reference across world literature. You can say, “This affected, entertained or spoke to me more than that" which isn’t an objective ranking. You can say One Piece is stronger in serialized storytelling and community engagement. But in terms of language, thematic compression, and literary influence, Shakespeare is clearly superior. They were also created for different eras.
