Speculations I AM YOU (I M U)

Not sure if that was ever pointed out. But what if Oda is making that word play? Imu standing for I am you? Yet to discover who you would be. Joy Boy? Someone else? The reader?

Not like he could actually be Joy Boy (maybe he could) but more like he is the evil version of him. Of someone else. Or the worst thing that is inside all of us.

When Imu was first revealed, the name was sometimes translated as "Im" or "Im-Sama".

At the time, I thought it could be a play on "I Am" (referencing God) or "Im-Sama[el]" (referencing one of the supposed names of Satan). Given that this story seems to be set before the Great Flood and not the End Times/Apocalypse as was originally hinted, I doubt it's the latter but who knows...

Is kinda tricky how he speaks himself in 3rd person. Wonder if he is not possessed instead of being the real devil.

I heard something similar about.
Imu blob thingy being the real Imu, shadow basically from Kage kage fruit of Joyboy.

That's why Imu can switch bodies.

There was more to that theory I don't remember much
