He recognized Luffy strength, but by feats, Luffy never went to toe to toe, Kaido didn't even use his Blazing form at this point, Kaido was literally having fun.
This after several of rounds, with Kaido showing signals of weakening. And Luffy before G5, hoped to defeat Kaido with G4. We all know what would happen after, even if the CP0 didn't attack Luffy before.

His Djinn form didn't show any special feature, except that he can fly and is big, and has some decent AP.

They will never accept this, G5 had to brought out twice against Kaido. Oda made sure to show the gap between the level of Luffy and Kaido. People seem to forget how taxing carrying Onigashima was for Momo, that Momo had the body of young Oden. Momo couldnt lift it for 5 secs and Kaido carried it throughout the night. Kaidos only mistake was to go head to head against Bajrung Gun. And even then he didnt let the island drop, Kaido was clashing against BG while holding Onigashima.
Give this feat to any other character and their fans will never let you hear the end of it. And this is not some give command and forget about it type of thing, the lifting is an active part.

Admirals > two schichibukaki > Yonkou commander.
Crew wise,
Yonkou > Navy > Schichibukai

And Navy can only Rival pne Yonkou crew at a time, Two yonkou crew is confirmed Navy death.
