Revisiting this, I do wonder what's the narrative intention for this confrontation. The term "poverty mindset" 貧乏根性 binbou konjou includes various characteristics, but some of them includes "not throwing away stuff that really should not be kept anymore".
The term doesn't just apply to "hoarding", but not wanting to even "waste" food and eating dirty food like what Sanji was doing also counts.
Except that, you know, originally Sanji himself did have the exact same reaction that Niji has. He only changed after experiencing almost dying from hunger.
Sanji holds "hurting women" and "not valuing food" against the other Vinsmokes, but he himself actually had the exact same attitude that they do if it weren't for Zeff's teaching and the shipwreck. Sanji was originally perfectly fine with wasting food before he learned to value food the hard way. He was perfectly fine with the idea of girls being kicked before Zeff told him no.
Surely Oda-sensei did remember he himself wrote all that about Sanji?
Sanji learned those values from the outside so why is he expecting the other Vinsmokes to just suddenly adopt the same values on their own? They never experienced starvation. They never saw any benefit of not hitting women specifically. The only thing he could hold against them is "you shouldn't be treating people like garbage", which stems from basic human empathy.
Like, obviously this could be just nothing and it's all for drama, but it could be that Oda-sensei setting up "Germa can change if someone can show or tell them how to change".
Germa is an isolated kingdom and they probably don't really see other perspectives often. Talking to clients don't really count. Do they even attend the previous Levely events?
