It really shouldn't have been a surprise. Lol. Did people just forget that the previous arc Luffy was utterly helpless against Big Mom, and his big arc fight was against a guy who basically outright admitted that even working together the siblings couldn't have stopped her rampage? Kaido being strong enough to utterly crush that version of Luffy really should have been expected. 😅

Much weaker opponents.
Loki is Yamato-level, and Luffy is the only top-tier fighter in Elbaf, yet he's struggling because Imu knows his weakness. Even so, he still hasn't been defeated.
An unnerfed Kaido, without having to carry an island, would have done better than Imu here. Imu still hasn't shown anything remotely close to the Flaming Dragon Torch, but I have to admit he may truly be the only one besides Joy Boy who could push an unnerfed Kaido to an extreme-difficulty fight and still lose.
Everything Imu is doing right now is irrelevant. In the end, he's just going to get driven out of Elbaf by a Yonko.

I'll say it again: Kaido is superior to Luffy in overall stats, as well as everyone else in Elbaf. None of the attacks we've seen in Elbaf so far would do anything serious to him.
Sure: he went on idk how many chapter with "I have to be stronger or I lose", but it's not like he was actually stronger even if he said he was.
