Is it unfair?

I don't think there's been a power system in history that requires less "talent" than COC. It's just arbitrary and for plot. Sanji will get ACOC when they didn't because Oda needs him to fight regen users.
It’s arbitrary the same way talent is, you’re literally describing talent lol. There’s no explanation as to why certain people can do what others can’t, it’s just the way it is. It’s not specific to OP, that’s just how life works.

And it doesn’t matter whether certain characters get ACoC for plot, it still means they’re good enough to get it. Doflamingo and Katakuri aren’t. Sorry they didn’t make the cut and were only here to put the fries in the bag. :Gaban_Smug:

Luffy was lucky when he recruited Zoro and Sanji given that they both displayed the talent of using ACOC within minutes of unlocking the basic version COC, huh?

(btw, Zoro and Sanji aren't even COC specialists lmao)

Luffy was a million times weaker than current Zoro and Sanji when he unlocked CoC, he didn’t even know what haki was. Still, he’s so talented that he’s the only confirmed character to have the advanced version of all 3 haki types.

You don’t need to be a CoC specialist to have ACoC, Gaban has it despite specializing in CoO.

Btw, the plot never required Sanji to become that strong, all Oda had to do was have him fight weaker characters not requiring ACoC. Characters like Killingham don’t exist for the sake of the plot, they exist for the sake of Sanji. And Sanji getting ACoC will happen because Oda wants him to be that strong, that’s all.

Zoro and Sanji surpassed Doflamingo and Katakuri long before getting CoC anyway, so I don’t know why you’re making it about ACoC. They’ve always had greater potential.

Imagine spending two years with Haki expert on an isolated land for one purpose, learning Haki, just to realize that his subcordinate unlock and learn it after a hint and motivation talk.
People keep thinking Rayleigh has taught him some advanced techniques. He stated that he will teach him "the Basics". No where it is stated that Rayleigh is going teach all he knows to Luffy.

Actually, it could be one of the best written CoC awakening of the manga.
The "stifled spear" hint was left by Oda since Baratie (it's obviously a retcon, but well connected) and his character growth started since WCI, 4 arcs ago.
It will be something related to his will of protecting the weaks, so not a "conqueror", but more a kind king who helps his people.

If you were talking about CoC coating, well, Monster Trio are combat genius.
Sanji "invented" Diable Jambe out of nowhere, like Luffy with Gear 2 and 3 or Zoro when he instinctively used Haki against Mr.1.
Him stopping to subconsciously nerf himself and suddently unlocking his true potential is not too stretched.
You people just love to read your own words huh?

Sanji didnt invent diable jambe on his own. Luffy didn't invent g2 and 3 on his own.

How is the spear thing a retcon when its a recurring theme the entire story?

Are you 12? Because thats the level of reading comprehension youve displayed here today.

- who did teach them those moves?

- it's a retcon in the sense that Oda obviously didn't think about Sanji's CoC 1000+ chapters ago.

- I'm actually 9.

Why does Luffy need to be "strong" to use something he unlocked? Sanji and Zoro having a higher power level is irrelevant. Is their a certain number your power level needs to reach to use ACOC? The story has never implied this as far as I know.

.
Not what I said at all. The issue is unlocking ACOC within minutes of unlocking basic COC, which is unprecedented from what we know.

Again, irrelevant.

Everyone involved has a tool, but some characters never were able to use the tool in decades, while some were able to figure it out in minutes?

But how? What clicked in Zoro or Sanji's head that allowed them to figure it out so quickly? Oda hasn't even tried to explain this.

Zoro and Sanji are prodigies. They have more innate talent than most other CoC users. It’s just a talent thing

This isn’t irrelevant at all when it was said CoC can’t be trained and only grows as the user’s strength grows. So it makes sense that if you awake it very early, when you’re too inexperienced as a fighter, you’re gonna need more time to unlock ACoC.

It’s not about when you unlock it, it’s about whether you have what it takes to get it. Zoro and Sanji do, Katakuri and Doflamingo don’t.

You can't "train COC", because Oda didn't intend for it to be a combat ability at the time, just a way for a character to show off their level. That's also why characters who had their story roles before Wano never showed ACOC, including Garp and Shanks who later showed it right after Wano ended.

There will never be another character in the story who unlocks COC and doesn't know how to use ACOC, regardless of power level. It's not even implied to be something you need a certain power level to achieve, we've literally seen on panel how Luffy was able to use ACOC, he just put 2 and 2 together.

Anything about Zoro and Sanji being prodigies is just a rationalization for bad writing.

See the sizzle from the spinning and friction?

Pay attention closely

Wanze uses friction to light his skates on fire per his own words. He tells sanji this.

Do we really have to continue or should I finish proving you incorrect?

This was never personal. My exasperation leaks through often.

Agreed but I think it's more about Oda not having fully fleshed it out, not that he never planned to do anything with it.

It’s convenient to say Oda never thought of ACoC before the rooftop fight, but reality is that Luffy didn’t have to train to get ACoC, just like Zoro and Sanji.

You can call that rationalization or bad writing, it doesn’t change the fact that Zoro and Sanji are factually more talented than Doflamingo and Katakuri. The out-of-universe reasons for that are not really relevant.

You have a backwards logic anyway. There’s a reason Oda waited to completely flesh out his power system before showing the likes of Shanks, Garp, Whitebeard, Rocks and Roger fight seriously on panel. They were always meant to be that strong, Katakuri and Doflamingo weren’t. So it’s not about whether top tiers initially showed an ability that Oda came up with later, it’s about how long Oda waited to show them go all out to maintain a certain level of consistency in his story. Doflamingo and Katakuri went all out much earlier in the story because their ceiling was simply much lower in Oda’s mind, so it doesn’t matter that ACoC didn’t exist back then.

The only problem is that Oda had two whole arcs where he could have focused on Sanji honing his armament and gaining some form of flowing haki and now he will straight up jump to flowing Conquerors and even learn to handle it so well where he will beat an omen buffed K/gham the instant he learns how to use this power up.

He doesn’t need to flow anything. Just coating
