Character Discussion Has Any Fictional Character Caused As Much Copium As Imu In Their Introduction?

I mean, good for Oda if people like Imu, but to me he's still ass. I remember how I felt about Akainu during Marineford, and Imu doesn't even come close. I don't care how he trashed Luffy, Loki & Gaban. He still didn't kill on panel someone like Ace & WB. And he didn't do it because he thought they were insects, he did it because he believed he was doing the right thing, eliminating dangerous criminals. That's what makes any villain more interesting, some dimensions to his personality. Too sad that for Akainu himself is a bleak remembrance of his former glory, just an overworked government lapdog dealing with bureaucracy.

Only retards think a villain can only be good if he is multi dimensional or conflicted. It’s enough for him to have hype moments and aura. If you really cared about character work as an Akainu fan you would have welcomed Akainu confronted by his own incapacity due to the stifling WG bureaucracy but just like every Shonen fan we all know that every thing that matters is hype moments and aura

Let's be all honest here, a villain, anime or otherwise, does not always have to be multifaceted to be a good villain. Frieza, for example, was a utterly depraved monster, but still considered a good villain because of his sadistic wit, among other things.

Imu is another white-haired pretty boy with a God Complex like Seprioth or Griffith. And his "thee art thou wilst" speech style isn't winning him brownie points.

Lol, I didn't say that villains that don't kill are trash, and by that logic Kaido actually scored some points because some of the scabbards didn't survive after all.
I'm more about the feeling of menace and despair that Akainu caused, and how much it impacted not only our protag, but the whole world.

I actually like the fact that Akainu is conflicted, I don't like the fact that he's doing nothing about it. But honestly, that's on Oda, he doesn't spend too much time on showing stuff outside of SHP adventures, there's a glimpse here and there, which is obviously not enough for the story of this scale.
Also, there are some simple utterly hateable villains like Spandam or Sommers in OP, which are also good to have. It's just that I expect more of Imu, as a kinda god-like being who's been out there for 800+ years. And that's why I don't really like him. You may call me whatever, it's just a matter of personal preference, and if you like Imu, it's up to you, enjoy his bishie sparks and moonspeak.

Yes, this. I do like more complex and relatable villains, but aura farming and being evil just because also works, when done well. Imu...just doesn't. Rn this fight kinda reminds me of Kaido's fight after BM left the rooftop: a super strong being with shallow characterization tries to kill Luffy, everyone tries to fight it and fails so far.
What makes me like this fight more are SHP current allies and their interactions. Let's see how it goes on.

I don't know, pretty much before Elbaf, most fans rate him as top 1. Maybe copes about Imu defeats easily lime Luffy is not trying on Imu when Loki and Gaban look better.
