True, Zeref and especially Acnologia were NEVER treated like that. Even Mashima's golden boy, Gildarts, got crippled by a casual Acnologia who literally toyed with him.
In fact, Human Acnologia blitzed and one shot one of the strongest Spriggan who was a dragon slayer of MULTIPLE elements. That's how you build up the final antagonist. Imu started off good until Oda couldn't stop his old legend wank and Imu suffered greatly from it. But okay, let's say Gaban is simply that strong... Being overpowered by a fodder giant is something even Mashima wouldn't come up with.
