Controversial Is pride the worst and most damaging thing there is?

I was thinking on this today, and I think it's likely pride is the worst thing there is and the worst thing a person can have, the reasons for it are:



1. Pride is the reason why people don't accept Christ and go to hell

2. Pride impairs your ability to learn about reality or explore

3. It distorts your view of reality

4. Look at what a lack of pride gets you:

- eternal salvation

- great and open attitude towards learning in life and exploring the truth

- resilience to failure, if your pride doesn't get hurt then there isn't much emotional hurt in failure anymore, and a lack of pride is a way to avoid that



Edit: I also remembered this just now, the Bible says that all contention happens because of pride

Proverbs 13:10
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.


And Leviathan is called king over all the children of pride:


Job 41:34
He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

Wrong, it can sometimes but is not the main factor.

Those scriptures don’t claim that pride is unambiguously bad. It’s talking about a specific type of pride.

I always thought that a reason why Pride is often listed as the "worst" of the sins is because it can prevent you from improving your flaws and behaviors tied to the other six

The issue is that that's semantycs

I'm not proud to be a christian in any sense of the word "proud" that I can think of, I'm happy God saved me, I'm happy that I'm trying to live a christian life and that he's helping me with it

But I don't go "Ho hum I'm a christian"


Man I'm so good, I'm a christian

That's not me, and it isn't what the Bible instructs
