Character Discussion I think I have finally understood Mihawk’s character

Do we have enough content to understand Mihawks character?

we have enough to understand some things about him. Such as his morality and his view of strength

what we don’t know is how he got to this point

I disagree with this.

In fact I think it’s the EXACT OPPOSITE.

I think Mihawk is the Only character in the story who sees the “Good” in being moral, but just DOES NOT CARE

Like all the bad guys are guys with warped morality, right, Imu thinks Domination is good, Kaido thinks Survival of the fittest is good. Stuff like that. But as far as the story goes, only Luffy and Shank’s mindsets are moral, standing up for your friends and fighting injustice are the TRULY GOOD morals to have

Thing is, I think Mihawk would agree with Shanks and Luffy. Mihawk applauds Zoro for caring so much about Luffy. Mihawk applauds Luffy for being able to make so many allies that are willing to die for him. Mihawk is friendly enough with Shanks despite his general disdain for Shanks becoming a hasbeen. I’m assuming because he can tell Shanks is morally righteous guy.

what’s strange about Mihawk is that he seems to agree with all the good guys BUT HE DOES NOT CARE. Mihawk knows that it’s actually good to have friends and allies, BUT HE DOESN’T HAVE ANY. Mihawk knows that Shanks is on the side of Justice but he chooses to be a warlord, the side of Injustice.

Mihawk is the only “Bad guy” who agrees with everything the “good guys” stand for but he remains a “bad guy” because he doesn’t care that the “good guys” are correct, all he cares about is Himself being the Strongest

Mihawk absolutely does care. At the very least, he is willing to change how he thinks and acts based on his perception of a person’s moral character. If that’s not caring, I don’t know what is.

When Zoro was fighting Mihawk at Baratie, Mihawk demeans and belittles him until Zoro holds fast to his principles and shows Mihawk that he’s willing to die for them. At that point, Mihawk’s inner monologue says なんて強き心 which is literally an expression of surprise at Zoro’s strong heart. He then immediately sheathes his dagger and takes out Yoru. Mihawk also compliments Luffy for holding back himself, Yosaku and Johnny from interfering in the fight out of respect for Zoro’s resolve.

Again after Marineford, Mihawk calls begging for help shameful and tries to kick Zoro out of his house at first, only changing his mind once he realises that Zoro is fully aware of this and has thrown away his pride for Luffy’s sake. He didn’t care at that point that training Zoro would make him the strong rival he desired, he cared that Zoro demonstrated incredible loyalty to his captain.

Finally, you’re wrong about Mihawk not having friends or allies. Remembering the name of a kid Shanks met ten years ago and bringing him his bounty poster, as well as telling Perona it would be better for her to leave before the warlords were disbanded, Mihawk does have people he cares about. To begin with, how could you describe someone who hosted and fed a complete stranger for two years without expecting anything in return as an individual without friends or moral character? There’s so much more to Mihawk than simply being the strongest.

You are misunderstanding what I mean by “not caring”

for everyone else, the story expresses What they care about through the only story agency that matters, FIGHTING

By this I mean, Akainu CARES about Absolute justice so the Story has him killing pirates And even marines and civilians to show it

Luffy CARES about his friends so he fights for them.

On and on, Story agency is the expression of what Characters care about.

like I said, we know that Mihawk AGREES with all the “correct” stuff the good guys agree with, BUT He doesn’t care about about them because his Story agency doesn’t.

mihawk has never fought for his friends. Never. He didn’t fight for Perona, he sent her away. If she died or got captured elsewhere, that would not be his problem. When Shanks arrived at Marineford, Mihawk didn’t switch sides to fight alongside Shanks. Mihawk has never fought For Zoro, even against the fodder Baboons on his island, he’s fine letting Zoro get killed by them, and he’s surprised when he is not.

That’s the thing, he respects Zoro’s resolve because himself likes Resolve. He respects Zoro’s loyalty because he likes Loyalty. He respects Zoro’s sacrifice of his pride for Luffy because he likes Sacrifice.

Mihawk LIKES AND AGREES with ALL THE CORRECT THINGS that all the good guys like and agree with… He simply doesn’t care to do shit about them.

mihawk clearly knows the WG is evil, he probably even knows that Objectively Whitebeard is a good man who is bringing good into the world, and yet At Marineford Mihawk’s explicit goal is to fight Whitebeard

Mihawk went to Marineford on the side of evil, knowing that he is on the side of evil, to fight and possibly Kill Whitebeard, a guy Mihawk knows is a good man and whose goodness Mihawk personally agrees with.

Mihawk agrees with the good guys, he just doesn’t give a shit that they are correct.

Your post actually goes perfectly with why Zoro called Shawk more human than Mihawk himself. Like a Vampire he hollow.

Zoro lived with Mihawk for 2 years and his evaluation of Mihawk isn’t a nice man who helps homeless Orphans like Perona. He’s evaluation of Mihawk is that he’s LESS HUMAN than a Mind-controlled Cyborg version of himself
