Luffys attack was using Lokis lightning and Lokis physical strength to boost his power.

Luffy literally said “I’ve got an idea!“ He used Loki’s lightning and the momentum as a power boost. Luffy’s attack is even named Thor Bullet LMFAO. Loki is the primary reason for breaking the shield. Goofball already used the same principle in Egghead when he absorbed the SHs’ combo to send Mars flying away.

Imu was caught off guard by Luffy jumping in front of Loki's attack

Then he easily tanks Loki's attack which just stuns him for a second and doesn't put up the shield until he sees Luffy flying at him

Loki directly hits Imu before Luffy and does zero damage, stick to headcanon. It's called Thor Bullet because Luffy's attacks infused by lightning are named like that (Thor Elephant Guns), Loki's lightning couldn't hurt Imu so obviously it can't damage his shield. Imu also isn't electrocuted by Luffy's attack so it's hard to tell how much the lightning helped. No one is denying that Loki gave Luffy a boost, similar to Orlumbus with Zoro.

Luffy punched Imu's shield and hurt his hand. But then with a lightning boost, was able to break through.

I don't know how much more needs to be said here. Individually, neither Loki nor Luffy are a match for Imu. It's only with this Fastball Special and the combined attack last chapter is making any headway.
