Luffy vs Katakuri in mirror room
And Maybe the Most famous „ticking Bomb“:getting to ace before he Gets offed
The tension in Disney is much bigger in OP RN. And this is shonen. Fairy Tail tension was bigger....Aknologia actually killed Ignil

Genshin story tension as well as story overall>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> One Piece

W7's "get Robin off the train before it reaches EL".
EL's "get Robin before she reaches the Gates of Justice".
EL's "get out of EL before the buster call".

Enel's judgment of the island.
M3's wax cake turning Zoro, Nami, and Vivi into statues.

Each arc has at least one countdown threat.
YES. Saying that tension is a Hollywood thing is peak delusion

:willight:

ID had three "ticking bomb" plots.
1. Get to Ace's cell before the guards can stop Luffy's team.
When that fails:
2. Get out of ID before Ace is taken to the gallows.
And before that:
3. Survive Magellan's poison before Ace's boat sails.
Impel down-getting Away from Toilette guy
1. Arlong Park when luffy stacked underwater;
2. Skypiea: The Destruction of Heavens
3. Thriller Bark: shadows and sun thingy;

Its going to be daijobu.
@Blazing Lion You were wondering why I stopped posting.
Aside from work, basically just this. Lost interest at this point due to butchery of the final villains and any semblance of tension in the series
Cant believe people out there are thinking that Imu transforming into his second form and doing nothing but getting clowned afterwards is good writing.

Compared to Wano, this is indeed shit, Luffy had to come back like 4-5 times and even died.
Idk about tension in a shonen though, the good guys are going to win always.

People think this will change with Blackbeard when Oda clowns him and his crew all the time lol
This Mickey Mouse manga is not allowed to have lethal villains, in a way it's a blessing that Akainu is stuck to his desk

Hes gonna get up form his desk some day and then things will go downhill. Only blind fanatics think otherwise.

Oda has shown his true colours.

Oda was doing so good with the Luffy vs Imu fight, you actually felt the tension return in OP when Luffy was getting stabbed. Imu felt like an impossible final villain. Then immediately the next chapter Luffy is healed and being goofy again, and Imu is getting mortally wounded in his transformed state. It’s all ruined, tension completely gone.
What.

I've been reading more books this year, mostly high fantasy. They deal with war and politics. Many secondary characters, close friends, great masters are killed in each novel regardless of how many books remain in a particular series. It's refreshing to feel dread in every battle; but I understand Oda has to sell merch. Creating dozens of characters that can become gacha-cards, and bobble heads is very important to Toei and Namco-Bandai.

Whether you guys think tension died or not you'll be here next week and the next week after reading the story, and you'll still be fishing for any bit of hype you can get.
What hype? There is zero hype left when the story is just one plot convenience after another. I literally dropped the manga in Wano and only came back hoping Oda would fix those structural issues. Instead, it got worse.
Thanks to Gear 5, the MC is completely insulated from consequences. It’s as boring as watching a playthrough of Dark Souls with an immortal mode cheat code turned on. The story is one step from death. I’m only staying to see how this specific arc wraps up, but everything from here on out is 200% predictable. If you're easily entertained by consequence-free slop, that's on you, but don't project your blind hype onto people who actually care about writing quality.
