If you think Zoro would get tail diffed a 2nd time if he clashed against Imu again, you would be in for an awakening.

This is just Oda's basic battle progress. He doesn't like drawing these, that's why their developments are just these extreme back and forths with no explanation whatsoever.

Gaban literally called this out tho, Gaban "Haki is a Power that is ONLY USEFULL when you CONSCIOUSLY control it" he basically says right here that Zoro acoc does not matter when he does not know about it. so Oda already wrote a in story reason why Zoro now is a different kind of beast
