Nah he's simply dropping characters' IQ points from time to time and that's just it, for whatever reasons: avoiding of spoilers, dramatic purposes etc.

Using aCoC on Egghead against the Gorosei would have spoiled its effectivness f.e.

And here with Luffy we even have it on panel, as he's physically touching the shield, when one of his biggest main PUs a while back does the opposite.

Oda just works like that. Same guy that silhouettes hybrids for years later to show afterall.

You should agree that would be beyond absurd to think someone, let's says Luffy, in his fight against Imu uses CoC the second before and then starts attacking with a more serious move... without CoC.
And I could say the same for Imu.

Even in Wano, Oda skipped lots of visual. For example, in G5 there were basically no trails on all moves, and so on.

We saw Imu casually block a gigantified G5 punch with one hand
While we saw Imu having to gigantify himself with omen + omen on his weapon to physically match a Loki's swing.

Luffy having suddeny enough power to break through a stronger Imu's barrier with a smaller fist and send him flying through the adam tree is because he tried more seriously and 100% his own strenght, nothing to do with Loki. He wanted to get hit by Ragnir just so he could make a funny face.

That's how some fans actually read the manga

I wonder if people would say Loki somehow held back in that swing that had Imu cough for several pages afterward? No black trails
