1) He was using SMILE users who had crazy bodies by default. Essentially patchwork characters.
2) He was using Ancient Zoans as his top officers and they didn't just be cool strong dinosaurs. Instead, their abilities were crazy stuff like Sasaki spinning his neck to fly.
Combined, those two things turned Kaido's offense into a joke.
I usually don't be negative about this kind of thing, but, I can see the structural theme there and it's a little bit crappy that everything got reduced to madness for madness' sake.
Sasaki flying like a helicopter.
Queen turning into a mechanical snake-bomb.
King shooting his face out like a rubber band.
Madness, I say, but if you don't find that fun then unfortunately Oda's flavor might not be your cup of tea.
