A Schematic Summary of Hunter × Hunter’s Core Families: Freecss, Netero, Zoldyck, and Hoikoro

#1
The narrative architecture of the manga is anchored by four supreme families (clarification: currently shown in the manga).
(By the way, their hierarchy of structural and general importance/power is organized as follows: Freecss > Netero > Zoldyck >= Hoikoro)

Togashi constructs a symmetrical opposition between two spheres of power: the official world of global politics and the underground world of crime and assassination.
The Hoikoro Family (Royalty and the Legal World)
The Hoikoro family represents the upper, institutionalized world of power. They interact directly with the V5 and, following Kakin’s inclusion in this global group, King Nasubi has become a new member within the newly formed V6.

The Zoldyck Family (Assassins and the Illegal World)
The Zoldyck family, as assassins and operate in the shadows and maintain connections with the criminal and illegal world.
As a matter of fact, during the Yorknew City arc, the ten Mafia Dons/Godfathers hire Zeno and Silva Zoldyck to assassinate the Genei Ryodan

Just as Beyond Netero functions as a counterpart to Isaac Netero, with their Yin-Yang-like contrast, most notably their black and white hair, King Nasubi and his son Benjamin appear to parallel Zeno and Silva Zoldyck.

Both pairs follow a similar father-and-son structure:
  • Zeno Zoldyck = Nasubi Hoikoro: elderly patriarchs representing powerful, traditional families related to Chinese culture
  • Silva Zoldyck = Benjamin Hoikoro: their tall, physically imposing sons who closely follow the authority and legacy of their fathers and the tradition of the family
In short:
- Isaac Netero = Beyond Netero
- Zeno Zoldyck = Nasubi Hoikoro
- Silva Zoldyck = Benjamin Hoikoro

1) Main patriarchs
  • Freecss (Don and Ging)
  • Netero (Isaac Netero + Beyond Netero/tall and muscular son)
  • Zoldyck (Zeno Zoldyck + Silva Zoldyck/tall and muscular son)
  • Hoikoro (Nasubi Hoikoro + Benjamin Hoikoro/tall and muscular son)

2) Main characters (the young child, the new generation)
  1. Gon Freecss (the name "Gon" serves as a linguistic bridge, combining elements of Don and Ging: Don + Ging = Gon).
  2. Killua Zoldyck (+ Alluka Zoldyck)
  3. Woble Hoikoro (Kurapika’s desire to send Gon and Killua to protect the real Woble)
Instead: Gon-Killua-Kurapika (new rat)-Leorio (new boar): the 4 main characters of HXH (related to Chrollo-Hisoka-Pariston-Ging - the adult main characters)

3) Main adversaries

1) Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich (adversaries of Gon-Killua-Kurapika)
  1. Hisoka
  2. Illumi Zoldyck (evil elder brother of the Zoldyck family)
  3. Tserriednich Hoikoro (evil elder brother of the Hoikoro family)
Hisoka is particularly important because he functions as the “Joker” of the manga. He does not truly belong to any single group, and it doesn't care about his past or family, etc. However, he is directly linked to all the 4 families:
  • He is related to both families: Zoldyck (Illumi) and Hoikoro (Tserriednich)
  • He takes the place of the Netero for Illumi and Tserriednich (instead of Isaac Netero + Zoldyck patriarchs and Beyond Netero + Hoikoro patriarchs)
  • He ultimately stands in opposition to the Freecss (Gon and Ging): Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich (mirrors Ging Freecss-Muher-Razor) are the main adversaries of Gon-Killua-Kurapika
2) Chrollo-Hisoka-Pariston=adult versions of Gon-Killua-Kurapika (+ Leorio/Ging)

Chrollo: Positioned as an adversary to both the Zoldyck and the Hoikoro families.
  • In Yorknew City, he fought Zeno and Silva to steal their abilities but failed.
  • In the current arc, his goal is to steal Kakin's three sacred treasures, the catalysts of the Succession Contest, and acquire a powerful and rare ability to eliminate Hisoka: Chrollo vs King Nasubi (Zeno 2.0)?
Pariston: Positioned as an adversary to the Netero and the Freecss
  • He operated as Isaac Netero’s vice-chairman while simultaneously acting as Beyond Netero’s right-hand man, plotting behind the scenes of both, also against them (he has a "twisted love").
  • He stands in direct opposition to Ging Freecss, notably showing zero surprise when Ging revealed the existence of Don Freecss, implying Pariston already knew of him: Manga

4) Main groups
There are four primary groups, divided by their societal alignment and mythological symbolism:

The Social/Legal World (Light Symbolism - Yang: White Hair):
  • The Zodiacs (Hunters): Pariston (the vice leader, the number 2), symbolically related to Michael the Archangel (evil): Image link
  • The Hoikoro Royal Family: Tserriednich, symbolically related to Jesus (evil)
The Illegal World (Darkness Symbolism - Yin: Black Hair):
  • Genei Ryodan (Criminals): Chrollo (the leader), symbolically related to Lucifer: image link
  • The Zoldyck Family: Illumi, symbolically related to Satan (drawing themes from the Illuminati and Satanism: the eye of the Illuminati/the eye of Illumi, mind control, control of the governments from the shadow + George Orwell's 1984 Big Brother figure/the entity).
The Wild Card (Beyond the Rules):
  • Hisoka: Symbolizes the Joker card + Grim Reaper (Death). He exists entirely outside the boundaries of both the legal and illegal worlds, operating completely by his own rules (this is also the reason Hisoka is included in both triads: Hisoka-Illumi-Tserriednich and Chrollo-Hisoka-Pariston)

Speculative Connections (This is just a theory): Marayam?

Point A: The Missing Netero Child
Among the four main families, the Netero lineage is the only one without a young child explicitly introduced in the current generation. Given that Prince Marayam is an isolated, singular child (much like Gon and Killua were in their respective family dynamics).
Is it possible that Marayam is actually Beyond Netero's secret child hidden within the Hoikoro royal family?

Point B: Numerology
There is a thematic connection between the antagonists and bad luck superstitions from both Eastern and Western cultures:
  • Hisoka (Eastern Tetraphobia): He was member n. 4 of the Ryodan. In East Asian cultures, the number 4 is synonymous with death.
  • Pariston (Western Superstition): He became the 13th Chairman of the Hunter Association. In Western culture, 13 is the number of death (the 13th Tarot card) and bad luck (Friday the 13th).
This numeric symbolism carries directly over into the Succession Contest via Kakin’s Princes:
  • Tserriednich is the 4th Prince: Directly mirroring Hisoka (Ryodan member n. 4) as a symbol of "death".
  • Marayam is the 13th Prince: Directly mirroring Pariston (the 13th Chairman) in relation to the Zodiacs. If this numerical parallel holds true, it strongly reinforces the theory that Marayam is tied to the Netero bloodline through Beyond.

In short (if someone is interested):

1) (Confirmed by chapter 420) Hisoka and Tserriednich's encounter and connection: like Ging and Razor - in relation to the triad Hisoka-illumi-Tserriednich, adversaries of Gon-Killua-Kurapika

Now, the 2 other "mysteries" are:
2) Marayam's mystery: Is Marayam Beyond Netero's secret child within the Hoikoro family?
3) Tserriednich's ability (Laplace's Devil): Is Tserriednich's ability the rare and powerful one that Chrollo is searching for?
This arc is Yorknew Arc 2.0:
  • Yorknew City arc: Kurapika started working for the Nostrade Mafia family to take the first pairs of Scarlet Eyes from Neon, a "flesh collector" who had a prophecy ability.
  • This arc: Kurapika started working for the Kakin Royal Family (which is also connected to the Kakin Mafia families) to take the last pairs of Scarlet Eyes from Tserriednich, a "flesh collector" (like Neon) who developed the ability to "see the future."

  • Yorknew City arc: Chrollo wanted to steal the Mafia community's treasure; he stole Neon's ability and wanted to steal Zeno and Silva's abilities, but failed.
  • This arc: Chrollo wants to steal the treasures (the 3 sacred treasures) of the Kakin Royal Family and steal a powerful ability to kill Hisoka for good.
The hypotheses are:
  • Chrollo vs. King Nasubi and Benjamin (as Zeno 2.0 and Silva 2.0) to steal the 3 sacred treasures?
  • Is Tserriednich's ability (the ability to see the future) the one Chrollo is searching for? (Like Neon's prophecy ability, which he stole in the Yorknew arc?)
