Like, the moment Sengoku punched Luffy, Luffy should have just fucking died.
It's Garp's Marine equal, the FLEET ADMIRAL OF THE FUCKING MARINES, openly punching someone WHO TAKES DAMAGE WHEN SOMEONE ELSE USES HAKI, who was only defending themself as a balloon.
Oda seems to think that once you become a round object you are semi-invulnerable.
Chopper tanking Saturn's legs also just completely fucking throws me off, HOW???
But Sengoku is honestly one of the worst ones in the series.
Oda's also admitted that Luffy losing to Croc in Alabasta makes no sense, it really should have been Smoker and Luffy vs Croc, like Smoker and Law vs Vergo. But Oda has to let Luffy do anything, even if it makes the plot shit.
I have wondered if Sengoku's Fruit doesn't allow him to harm "good" people since he's like a divine being, and I also think Chopper surviving Saturn can be explained if Chopper really is a Mythical Zoan.
But Croc vs Luffy will always piss me off, that's when the series honestly jumped the shark from "Luffy is a strong guy who needs help to win" to "Luffy will constantly get the glory even if it doesn't really make sense."
Law not getting his against Doffy is also an example of this. Imagine Law comes in last second, and cuts the Sixteen Holy Bullets, letting Luffy punch clean into Doffy?
I'm working on some new writing, and one of my big goals is having a lot of the boss enemies get defeated through combo attacks, rather than one dude getting all the credit at the end.
"So you're the man who beat Kaido... after Kaido fought like 15 other fuckers... ahem..."
I think one of the biggest issues in One Piece is that Oda just likes Luffy too much, and has a hard time reigning in his own main character, LOL.
