The whole point of this fight was for Zoro to learn how to consciously use CoC so he wouldn’t overload himself and could “properly” coat his swords.

Believe me, this is the arc Oda will let everyone know what it means to be the right and left hand man of the Pirate King. He'll buff Sommers and Killingham 100x just to fatten them up for the Zoro and Sanji one shots. Easy work once they can willingly erect their CoCs.

I feel there's something missing that connects these two lines of dialogue. What is the thing that can remain unchanged? My first thought is Black Blades. And if CoC Haki is pivotal to forging one, it would make sense. Maybe all these mini Mihawk training flashbacks, including the Dressrosa one, are clues that ultimately lead to forging a Kokuto.
