The thing is Oda DID do that but he only did it once

The initial clash between Sommers and Zoro was the talk of the town because of the hype behind Dragon Damnation

When Sommers not only clashed with it but OVERPOWERED Zoro that surprised everyone and made a lot of people start respecting Sommers

Now we have… this. It’s like, where did all of that hype go?

It feels like he wanted to make Sommers a credible opponent that Zoro could take pride in beating but it just isn’t like that anymore

He’ll be seen as a Holy scrub again

That's why the fight feels off
At first Omen Sommers seemed like an opponent that would show Zoro's growth with how he overpowered the very move that finished King.
But since last chapter he's been constantly bullied by a pre-PU Zoro that doesn't even look to be trying much, so how do even scale him when there are two different versions? It's not like Omen Sommers has any feat outside Zoro

Zoro used a Mihawk flashback just to become as strong as he was 5 years ago LMFAO. Oda lost interest in this fight, he’s focused on the Imu fight. The Wings are for stalling until chapter 1200, nothing more.

Need to wait for the translation but it looks like Zoro attacked Sommers with KoH (black lightning + smoke) multiple times and he still regenerated instantly.

Maybe coating swords in CoC and having CoC emanate from the swords are two different things (even though Oda is too bum to visually distinguish them) or maybe KoH is an incomplete form of coating but either way Zoro has clearly gotten stronger imo.

All this fight with Sommers has taught us is how intentional and controlled his usage of CoC is, but he did use it against Lucci
