Sommers being such a bum even before Zoro mastered COC doesn't really make Zoro look good since Sommers genuinely looking weaker than YC1s like King and Lucci, he just happens to have regen.
Showing Sommers being competitive then having him get washed once Zoro masters COC would have better to show how big of a PU it is.
Zoro fans will claim Omen Sommer is top tier of course but good luck convincing anyone else he is above opponents from arcs ago

You can still be a goofy character but still be portrayed as somewhat of a threat during battle, Queen imo is a perfect example of this.
