Previously Rayleigh said that CoC cannot be trained to get stronger, it gets stronger passively from the user just getting stronger as a person themselves right?

okay fine. Oda wants his top power in the verse to be vaguely defined so that people don’t ask questions like “how come Imu doesn’t have 800 years of CoC training to be leaps and bounds stronger than the rest of verse in CoC”?

Fine.

But now we have a new gimmick. Turns out some kind of “self recognition” like a Disney princess believing in herself is also a way to strengthen your CoC?

like everytime Luffy says “I’m monkey D Luffy, the man who will be Pirate king” he gets +1 CoC because Self recognition is a stat boost now

The translation isn’t going to change the meaning

we even had this panel before of Zoro saying that he genuinely believe that only Captain can have CoC

Mao that’s the set up for Mihawk’s words

Mihawk’s words are that CoC is fueled by Self recognition. Zoro was failing to use CoC because Zoro DID NOT SEE HIMSELF AS A COC USER

That’s it. This entire chapter Zoro becomes a CoC user simply by “seeing himself” as a CoC user… like a true Disney princess

That’s true but in this instance it’s not even about Haki specifically, it’s about Zoro

Oda is introducing this new idea around haki SPECIFICALLY to address why Zoro knew what CoC was in Fishman island and yet 15 years later in Elbaf Zoro can be so stupid around himself having CoC

to address this bizarre writing choice around Zoro, Oda has invented this new idea that Zoro quite literlsly thought “only captains and people like that” can have CoC



So that’s the solution. Zoro just didn’t believe that he can even have CoC and that was the issue… And then Zoro started believing he had CoC and it’s now working

Oda has invented a new Haki mechanic to address his nonsense Zoro writing but now it’s universal. It’s now a universal haki mechanic that Mihawk’s “sense of self” gimmick is the “fuel” of CoC

whenever Luffy reaffirms his “sense of self”, he gets a CoC boost. Fucking ridiculous

Cannot believe the explanation of CoC is just that simple, sense of self, like what Luffy always says "I will become the pirate king" or something similar to "I'm badass and I know it".

Then come to think of it, Hajrudin who has kingly ambition of uniting the giant race doesn't have CoC might be the same reason.

Why Jimbei doesn't have CoC? he is literally the strongest fishman out there. His sense of self is undoubtedly natural. Could he be having the same reason like Sanji, lacking kingly ambition.

Oda also showed a lot of how "sense of self" actually works like throwing yourself in front of punches in order to protect someone. Of course that's how you let your enemy know your presence.

Its not just about that, its also about having an unshakeable conviction, being unwavering, reflecting on what kind of king you want to be. Elbaf is making it more clear that rather than this just being a power you are born with, it seems like its a power that can be obtained under certain condition. Someone that might not have always had the quality could become one, but it requires a shift in character which not everyone will be able to find it in themselves to do. All haki may stem from willpower but conquerors haki is the one that is most reflective of the users spirit, thats why you cannot train it to be stronger, it grows with you as you grow as a person.
