Say what you will about how Kishimoto handled Obito, but it’s still better writing than Gold Roger being turned into Gold Luffy
Nope. All Kishimoto had to do was have Obito show off his maimed body and show how cruel it was for a little boy to fight in a war. But instead, all of it was because of a crush he had on some girl.

Roger being a little silly is nothing compared to something so lame.

Tbf I’m pretty sure only Gaara, Nagato, and Obito were actual Naruto parallels among the arc antagonists. Zabuza, Orochimaru, Itachi, Sasori/Deidara, Kakuzu, Madara, and Kaguya weren’t.
Yeah, that's why Naruto was at it's best with the OG Akatsuki and Orochimaru. The obsession with parallels at the end made everything artificial and forced(same is inevitably going to be true of One Piece and we already kind of see that stuff)

I’ll never understand why people act like losing the love of your life (and watching your best friend do it) is some lame reason to crash out.

You can tell that a lot of OP fans are secret Naruto fanboys with how they try to make the most forced parallels all the time (like Law somehow being a WB parallel)

He was like 12, though. Maybe undergo puberty before you start declaring someone the love of your life.

And again, Rin was so unnecessary. All he has to do was show his mutilated body to explain why he did all that.

If Obito justified his actions on a boulder falling on him, you would 100 percent just call him selfish and whiny
It doesn't justify what he was trying to do, nor should it, of course, but there's an element of being able to understand that a little bit better.

Obito was still mentally unstable and a villain, but a little boy thrown into war and that being his raison d'etre is still more effective then some schoolboy crush.

You sympathize more with someone upset that they got injured and survived in a miracle, than someone upset that someone they cared about died lol? So basically something that isn't permanent, is worse than an actual death?

But the thing wasn't that Obito and Rin knew eachother for years and deeply were in love with eachother. In fact, Rin was more into Kakashi. So, all this crazy crap happened because of some nut job who couldn't move past his pre-teen crush who didn't even reciprocate said feelings. Instead of an element of tragedy, it's just kinda creepy.

You know it was over for Johnny B Decent when he tried acting like the Akatsuki isn't much better than the Holy Knights because they died before the final war
The Holy Knights are crap, but they're at least a sub-group of a villainous group as a whole, and not the main focus of the series for its majority.

And the Akatsuki are supremely overrated. As villains, when the final arc came, all but two of them were dead and needed to be revived as zombies and if half of then weren't pretty boys like Itachi or Deidara or Pain in Yahiko's body, the 00's fans wouldn't have cared as much about them.

I fail to see how this is relevant
It's not Dracula swearing vengeance on humanity for his wife's death, where at least there was an actual relationship there. Obito had a one-sided crush when he was a pre-teen.

The key facet is that Obito was mentally unstable and childish, but there's a limit to it. At least if it was vengeance for a world that chewed him up and spit him out, that's at least a bit more able for fans to emphasize with then him being a creepy old fuck.

I figure that Rin was less the reason, and more the tipping point. Obito suffered, but the thing that kept him going was this dream of seeing not just Rin, but also Kakashi, of going back to how things were but even better. That's the thing that was supporting him emotionally through his YEARS long rehabilitation. And then having that dream shattered to pieces so horribly is what finally broke him.

Though funnily enough, Boruto acrually did something closer to what you're describing with Ao. Though in his case it was also seeing Kishimoto powercreeping tf out of the verse at the end, and feeling so utterly powerless because of how many NOT particularly weak people died because of a single casual attack from the Ten Tails. Lol.

It would be one thing if seeing Rin die was the tipping point, but when he died, she's there to escort him to the afterlife, and it was just so ridiculous.
