I simply can't understand how you throw a fit because you don't play , just because you want to reach 1000 goals.. You have a nation supporting you but the last 2 tournaments you do everything to turn even them against you. His ego is what made him reach the heights he reached but is also his demise.

Throwing a fit and breaking relations 21 goals away is not the way to go. It is not like he has 998 goals and if he played all the matches in this international break
I find it more likely that he knows he can't keep up any more and he wants all the matches he can get to ensure he surpasses the hurdle this year. He doesn't want to go another round. 979 is too close for him to play another year at Arabia. He wants to leave this year.

Lewa, Suarez, Benzema and others have more goals than R9 but no one considers them better than him.

If Haaland stays healthy and moves to Saudi/MLS when he is 36 or 37 he might surpass it even sooner.
