I genuinely do not understand why Oda even bothered giving Sommers that DD feat atp.

Thing is, Sommers was a fun antagonist.
Having him be simply aura farming material for Zoro is just lame. Same thing could have been accomplished with Killingham.
Would much rather have Sommers vs Sanji still.
Because the thing is, the HKs legit fell flat. The fact that they are mere training tools when Imu himself is in the island facing off Luffy feels even more lame.
HKs flexed on random island giants, some giant teachers, and then Gunko rekt the non-M3 SHs. that's it. Everywhere else they fell flat.
Even GunkImu fell flat.
Wings get scraps. Non-M3 SHs dont even get that.
It's kinda annoying. Why bother having a giant protagonist cast if only the MC matters?

The point is that ever since Harald turned Elbaph “woke” Imu has lost respect for them and their warrior spirit. He was easily going to succeed by recreating what happened 800 years ago by taking their children. Same thing with the HKs, relying on manipulation tactics and Imu’s dominance has dulled their blade. This is the arc where Zoro and Sanji are essentially confirmed to be worthy PK wings, so I’d be disappointed if they weren’t able to absolutely neg the HKs at this point in the story. They should be around prime Rayleigh and Gaban levels by now. Basically, unless you’re Kaido/Imu level, you’re not getting past Zoro or Sanji. We’re only like two arcs away from the Final War lol
I need to see the full chapter first before judging the pacing. I don’t think Oda is intentionally dragging things out just to hit Chapter 1200. There are 5–6 concurrent subplots that all need to simultaneously move from Point A to Point B so they can converge and wrap up around the same time (around 10-15 chapters from now when the arc ends).
So in theory, I understand why we’re getting chapters like this. I’d rather judge the pacing once we can see how everything fits together.
