If Sanji and Zoro are virtually equal in combat, and Sanji can also cook, Sky Walk, and spy for the Straw Hat crew while Zoro can’t even run simple errands, doesn’t that make Sanji a more useful member of the crew than that stupid mosshead who has no sense of direction?

In what way are they equal "wings"? Sanji is clearly superior.

The main difference between Zoro and Sanji, which is the reason why Zoro is the right hand is: "stability".
Zoro is extremely reliable, unwavering.
Sanji is psychologically unstable, lacked self esteem until now, and moving forward, because of his genes/DNA, there is a huge chance he will lose control...... Something Sanji is aware of and asked Zoro to kill him if he ever loses himself (Zoro will never kill Sanji obviously).
But that's the point, and proof of Oda's brillance. Even Sanji needs Zoro to support him in times of need.
Zoro is Luffy's most reliable crew member, Sanji is more talented and also integral to the journey, but his weaknesses (mental for the most part, because of his family) make him unstable.

Sanji managed to block a laser, something ZoLo considered impossible.
Sanji is more suited for defense in general post-Germa nonsese.
