There's a war between the French and the Japanese over the use of One Piece imagery during the protests and now it's somewhat morphed into a debate about piracy. From what I've seen the Japanese REALLY don't like when western fans pirate content even when it's not available for them. They equate it to theft.

They do unironically do feel superior to everyone else, and they're incapable of seeing the grey area when it comes to piracy. No wonder 90% of anime is straight up corporate fanservice slop and they lap that shit up like it's MacDonald's after a night of clubbing.

I don’t want to get into morality of stealing but I always saw piracy the same way I see something like a kid stealing a $1 candy off the grocery store. Like yeah it’s not the best thing but idgaf
I've always viewed piracy through these two questions:

1. Is the company selling the product doing a good job, or being shitty?
2. Will buying the product actually support the people who created and supported it?

Gabe said it best. Piracy is generally a service issue. Most people are smart enough to realize the people making money in corporations are not the people that actually put the most work in. They're paying to get a quality service, not for fucking ethics.

If my money is going to a legit product, and the profits are actually going to the people who made the content? Sure. If not? Hey, if the business won't be ethical, why should we be?

Take anime piracy.

It does not matter how much money we spend as consumers: that money is NEVER going to the people actually producing the art, it's going to grifters.

The fact that the top tier quality of anime like Fate Zero is held behind horrendously overpriced boxes of discs that will degrade beyond use within a few decades is proof the entire business model is broken.

Once I realized the money from anime sales was never was going to the creators, I just realized piracy was the result of people accepting there was no actual ethical way to spend their money.

Steam will always be the greatest proof that piracy is a direct result of rich people.

And that's really funny, because it's honestly the entire point of One Piece: would all these pirates exist without rich people? LOL no.

Piracy is a result of greed, and Oda understands this, and so watching his pirate series get pirated JUST MAKES ME LAUGH MY CLOWN ASS OFF.

Oda taught me to pirate from the rich, so I'm pirating his pirate series, because Oda is rich as fuck.

THE CIRCLE OF LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFE

I do hope to buy a bunch of One Piece volumes and donate them to libraries, though.

I'll see if I retire from following one piece from chapter 1200 onwards. This has been lasting for too long. I knew early on that this manga was made to last years and years and years but I may not have the stamina to keep scrolling one more decade. Let's try making 1200 a landmark.
I understand how you feel. But if you start it you should finish until the end.
