Current Events an explanation of why One Piece is receiving so much criticism right now

#1
The Elbaf arc is currently being panned by One Piece fans, both in Japan and across the globe.

While the majority of the Elbaf arc is actually quite good, in my view there is really only one reason for this criticism, a single element of the arc that poses a problem:

it's Imu

The only real problem with the Elbaf arc is Imu.

This is the first arc in which Imu’s powers and techniques are revealed to us, and the first time his true appearance is unveiled, and this is specifically what is bad and poorly managed

The two points that are lacking, which are poor, bad, poorly written and drawn are:

Imu's powers

imu's true appearance

these two points are not just poorly conceived and badly written elements; they are also completely unexplained.

We have no explanation regarding the nature of Imu’s powers or how they function, nor is there any explanation as to what their true appearance signifies.

Moreover, appearance and powers are connected and seem to share a common explanation.

It's less about IMU's powers and more about how boring his fight is.

People can wait until his backstory is revealed, but won't accept horrible writing decisions like DR, asspulled transformations, and more haki mass.

Also, he is hardly the only problem of the arc. The pacing and padding of the chapters is becoming abysmally bad. Biblo's Box of Bullshit has been featured in six chapters and the only information we were given so fae about it is: Lili left it here.

The giants and Zaza are on standby until the rest of the plot catches up. Gunko awakened at a snail's pace. And the other SHs that are neither with Gunko nor with Biblo have been doing fuckall for almost 2 IRL years.

I disagree, I find the pacing of the arc to be good, The pacing and speed are well handled when reading by the volumes.

You only get bored if you read weekly magazines, or as a scan, in the meantime look for a new chapter every weekend or every other weekend

If it's boring weekly then it's boring in volumes.

In volumes you simply have the luxury of skimming chapters and find out what happens next immediately.

I agree that Imu's transformations are bad, and that Domi Reversi is a terrible power, it’s part of the list of Imu’s poorly written powers.

I don't think the fans have the patience to wait for his past to be revealed later on, One Piece has always followed a precise structure, where the past is revealed before the arc’s villain is defeated, serving to explain the nature of their appearance and how their powers work.
The absence of a backstory for Imu, or any explanation surrounding him, may well account for the unease felt among fans and the numerous criticisms being raised.

(Regarding Haki, it’s been a general issue in One Piece ever since Wano.)

People complain because if they are here, that means either they're already sold on the story or 're too invested to care anymore, so no need to pretend that they still judging One Piece for its story, we are way past that now. It's like you go to a restaurant & keep ordering the same food for years & years & can't stop talking about it with people, and then 726 years later you finally decide to rate its taste & quality, who cares? Your opinion isn't valid anymore, you're already an over consumer,

Instead, they try to justify their criticism by saying "Oh, it's not like used to be", as if that doesn't apply on them too, and their comparison between Post-TS & Pre-TS isn't even fair,

If I compared between One Piece & another Manga, let's say Naruto, will I compare them chapter for chapter? So I'm gonna compare Fish-Men Island Arc to Final Saga of Naruto? lol Ofc not, we compare story segments based on where they fit, same thing for Pre-TS & Post-TS, don't compare 600 Chapters of Post-TS to 600 Chapters of Pre-TS,

Baroque Works Saga that lasted about 115 Chapters, for Post-TS it turned into Donquixote Family Saga & it lasted about 150 Chapters,
Noland Saga lasted about 85 Chapters, but Oden Saga lasted over 250 Chapters! (If not for Big Mom & everything related to her, it would have been 100 Chapters less at least), so what Oda made in 300 Chapters Pre-TS, He ended up needing 450 Chapters to make in Post-TS, and now we are in Post-TS Equivalent of Water 7/WG Saga and we are still in middle of it, and it's like 150 Chapters compared to only 50 Chapters in Pre-TS,

We still haven't seen Ending of this Arc, we still haven't seen Equivalent of Enies Lobby War of Post-TS, we still haven't seen Thriller Bark Version of Post-TS where SHs are "Main" Focus and barely any Side Characters, we still haven't seen Sabaody (Last Island) of Post-TS, and we still haven't seen Ending of Post-TS (Equivalent of Last 100 Chapters of Pre-TS),

And if we Compared what we got so far to 350 Chapters of Pre-TS, it's not as bad as people make it look, the only thing that bothers us is that Oda is drawing more than He should, but that's not enough reason really, I could say that I prefer 3-5 Volumes from Pre-TS over anything I've seen so far from Post-TS, but the rest is of same Quality or even Higher most times,

In Truth, people complain cuz They are treating One Piece as a Live Service Show, They only care who showed up & who didn't? who received an L & who got a W? Did last chapter help me win argument against user32574641 on Twitter or that forum? Did my theory end up true or Oda ruined it? Is my fanbase winning against that rival one? Why didn't that character or that sub-plot end up the way I expected? Why is that character weaker than I claimed him to be after just seeing a silhouette of his nose? Why my favorite character got his aura ruined?

There's new generation of anime fans, aka the covid generations that will never invest so much time watching One piece.

That's the truth.

OP is pretty hated now in normie circles. Every clips is being mocked like " People still watching this series? " with thousands of likes.

Live action series couldn't attract new audience despite massive PR campaigns.

One piece fans themselves are also largely more critical of the series, especially the pacing.

R/Piratfolks have 300K members, This Forum got 40k members. These are the settings that's overwhelmingly dominated by critics.

Meanwhile you go main OP subreddit and it's full of OF fan services.

Some OP fans went ultra Defensive and adopted cultish mentality towards the criticism, so they become hardcore as a result.

But the casual pull is important as well. That's why live action and now film God valley is approved.

No doubt SJ officials is feeling the heat.

:goatasure:

Everyone is now asking to be spoonfed... To the point of questionning the quality of the writing of a character on the very basis that makes these stories what they are : mystery and subtilities.

Sometimes this kind of things makes me scared that we are diving head first into an era of baby level material. Meanwhile.. Hollywood is trying to simplify everything....

Our generation is cursed.
