What is insane to me is that Oda goes out of his way to actually DRAW panels of moments of Sanji's "self-deprecating" nature, to show us that it's something since his intro in BARATIE, but you would have people think it came out of nowhere.

He even went out of his way to show how Sanji's kamabakka period wasn't something "just for the gag" and tied it into his development.
