At least not against Killingham of all ops.

Bro's just another washed Holy Roppo jobbers that Oda introduced last minute. Bro has no build-up or characterization to be Sanji's opponent. Even Sommers has more characterization to be Sanji's op but that didn't happen.

The only thing Killingham has going on for him is his LongAnus spear that stabbed Jesus's ribs (which has nothing to do with Sanji in-verse since we already got Rubber Jesus Nika in the series already) and his Kirin DF mythology (the lore stated that a Kirin appears before a wise king) which I guess it is somewhat relevant to Sanji unlocking CoC, but that just means Killingham's DF is more crucial for Sanji's awakening than Killingham himself.

Even Queen has better build-up as an opponent to unlock CoC against for Sanji than Killingham, bro has connection with Judge, bro has Germa techs, and bro says fuck women, etc.

Hell, even Kuzan has better build-up due to the fact that he kidnapped Pudding.

But yeah anyway, it's probably just me that Sanji should unlock CoC against an actual worthy opponent instead of gigajobber like Killingham.

I kinda expected Sanji to unlock CoC in BP fight.

But I am happy to be wrong! And Killingham, even as a bum, was a nice catalyst for Sanji. In a way, Killingham is what Sanji could become - an evil bro following his evil family and being proud of it.

Think Killingham was perfect person for it .
It's like Oda write him for sanji to unlock it .
Killingham power set , how he talk , how he can't beat him with coc .
They way how fight made sanji look at his life etc etc

Yeah I agree with you on this.

So I do like how Sanji has unlocked CoC, in that it’s came from his self reflection, how Ivankov was tied in to it, how it ties into the self sacrifce aspects of his character. I also think visually it looks way cooler than IJ, which was pretty meh to me- looks good in the anime, but not in the anime. I do think the idea that Sanji was apparently taking attacks he didn’t need to is pure horseshit that at best Oda has came up with post WCI, kind you, but it does thematically tie in at least.

But I don’t think Killingham’s been a particularly good opponent for unlocking CoC, and I don’t think Elbaf is a good arc for it. It just seems to be Oda saying I need him to have it going forward, so he’s getting it now. Zoro’s bizzare CoC writing is in a similar boat except for him it’s Oda felt he gave it to him too early so held it back unnaturally for an arc and a half. So he throws in his classic Old Man Mentor to shout at the two of them about CoC and - surprise - it’s just in time for two opponents where it just so happens their only weakness is CoC!

For Elbaf not being a great arc for it, it’s because Sanji doesn’t really have any connection with the giants that I recall due to his role on Little Garden meaning he missed all the Dorry Broggy stuff. And Oda didn’t have him really bond with any during the arc either.

The Killingham rivalry was rushed through imo, and it was a mistep for Oda to have Sanji utterly destroy him pre Omen. Killingham himself, he’s not really a great foil for Sanji, he’s just the usual Celestial Dragon dickhead. Like if Sanji didn‘t need CoC to beat him, he wouldn’t be someone that would cause Sanji to have any self reflection.

Sanji vs Queen would have been a far better fight to unlock it imo, or for him to have been given a fight in Egghead that maybe tied in to him regretting not being able to save Vegapunk?

Much like my criticism of Zoro vs Sommers though, although I don’t think they are perfect fights, I do think they’ve both been pretty fun and enjoyable. Definitely Sanji’s best post skip fight - although even Sanji fans have to admit there’s not much competition there.
