no he would not, he first would make sure if he is the right person for the fruit. it was only Gabans opinion that it was Shanks but who says that Shanks himself thought he was the one? also Shanks had Imus pact on his arm there is 0 chance that Shanks would risk Joy Boy fruit like that

in fact it would make sense for Shanks to have searched for ace because that is who Roger thought will be the one.

They still could have had a talk in my scenario because Luffy would first tap into the monkey form -> fighting with just instinct would be fruitless against Imu - > Loki takes over for some time -> Luffy has inner turmoil with Nika and "conquers" his DF -> Cue White Form

Some of them look cool enough, but the problem is that they feel more like fanfiction characters than Naruto characters.

It's just spitballing and monday-night-quarterbacking on my part but maybe he didn't lean into this idea because it would look like yet another demon-takes-over story we got x times before.

It just so happens that those moments are always dope and give us more tension than immediately getting hang of it like Luffy did in Wano.
