Comparing 3 trash non haki fodder who were gags to someone who actually stalled Kaido better than rooftop 5 (no awakening) and whose haki an admiral acknowledged as powerful on top of a mythical zoan. Zoro even asked her not to embarrass the rest of scabbards
Oda has not disrespect Yamato's strength in the slightest. Rather he highlights it and makes her contestable with top tiers. Having ACoC + mythical zoan + stalling the WSC + clowning an admiral is all thats needed to prove she's a top tier at min

Sanji just surpassed Yamato with his new power ups base luffy couldn’t even make kizaru do this.

Yamato's biggest issue is her lack of big AP feats for an aCOC user. It's not *bad* (she can one tap a vet level character in her base, her TB matched Kaido's and she gave GB a headache although it was a cheapshot), but when I compare her to other aCOC users it is lacking.
Kaido also put her below G2/G3 Luffy (for BM one can cope her vs Kaido was not a serious fight but Yamato was clearly trying her best against Kaido) who I don't see beating any etablished top tier either.
"Inbetweener" seems fitting. Too strong for a high tier but still lack something to be a bonafide top tier
