Yeah, but what would be the limits, the reasons rather?

Does Imu as a form of central body? Much like Perona? Or perhaps he is limited graphically by some artefact (the strawhat?) ?
Curse from Davy jones which would explain his anger towards him.

Or

He almost died against Joyboy and underwent immortality surgery within MJ and in that room or place he basically operates as if he was in pristine condition but when he leaves the room he slowly degrades to his mortally injured self.

But if he is in pristine condition within Mariejois, why does he exist as a living shadow within it?

No, I feel Law's fruit didn't do it, but there is something in Mariejois that serves as a magical life support for him.

The shadow thing isnt actually a thing, I think he can shapeshift sure but the shadow was just to hide his appearance and we will see it at the end of Elbaph.

Maybe it’s the air. We know Imu spends his time in the room of flowers, perhaps he can’t breathe the air unleashed by trees in the human realm and the air released by those flowers is different.

We know oda puts heavy importance on trees/forests. And even had Sakura blossoms cure Hiriluk in the past.

@PuckTheGreat sorry to bother. In the japanese, does Imu claim that he used much power against Loki in terms of "pure power" or limit.
Not puck but from my limited knowledge Imu says

"This is my limit. To think that it ended up that I used my power here"

After this he thinks how he must hurry and return to the holy land. So the limit he's talking it's about how long he is staying in elbaf. He talks about "power" simply. My interpretation is that Imu showed his real power with this tranformation but we don't know if his real power in elpbaph is different from when he's in the holy land.
