The first time I watched One Piece, the main character said his name was Monkey D. Luffy. I think to myself, this won't be another JTTW inspired manga right? This kid called Luffy won't be another Wukong inspired character right? 1197 chapters later, it is now confirmed he is.

Some of the chinese myth are inspired from India because they share similar religion. JTTW is a hugely embedded into the East Asia culture, Japan had produced a lot of the abridged version of movies and television series. JTTW is an abridged version of India's mythology. I will say more or less both.
