If King is the first opponent that Zoro uses Asura on post timeskip, then Zoro is not going to deploy Asura and then lose. Asura is not going to be underwhelming at its debut. It doesn't fit the narrative around how Oda handles power ups, and it doesn't make much sense for Asura to be hidden for 400+ chapters and then be ineffective when it's first used.

If Zoro doesn't debut Asura against King, then this conclusion doesn't hold. If he does debut Asura against King, then he'll win. I think King would be Zoro's first usage of Asura. If true, Zoro would beat King once he brings out Asura. This leads to the conclusion that Zoro is already stronger than King.

The main caveat would be if Zoro unlocks further power ups Vs King (e.g. cutting fire/cutting with fire). So Zoro doesn't have to be stronger than King yet. I'm not up to 75% confident that he is.

First awakening shown in series iirc, Doffy's, the awakening user still lost his match.
I thought "First shown of power up means guaranteed win" only happened in Digimon series, but then Garudamon also never defeated Myotismon in her first debut.

@Topi Jerami G4 didn't defeat Doflamingo in Round 1, but it did defeat Doflamingo. I'm not saying Asura would stomp King. But the first time Zoro demonstrates Asura it should let him triumph over his opponent.
Sulong Carrot is a counterexample, but I think Carrot is not as relevant as Zoro.

Raid Suit Sanji is a more compelling counterexample. Raid Suit Sanji did have the advantage against Page One though. Their fight wasn't concluded, but had they had a full fight, I think Sanji would have won.

Base Kaido would trash King with low difficulty and full power Zoro is at least as strong as Base Kaido

Doflamingo is not a relevant counterexample because he was an antagonist. Antagonists' power ups don't grant them victory. That narrative argument only apply to the protagonists.

This was for preskip Asura. Post timeskip Asura has yet to be debuted and is being saved for something special. G2 & G3/Diable Jambe became very casual for Luffy/Sanji and were no longer the game changers they were preskip. That Oda has yet to demonstrate Asura postskip suggests that he intends for it to remain a game changer.

Asura has been treated more like a G4 equivalent than like its EL peers G2/G3 and Diable Jambe. It's narrative role would probably be similar to what Gear 4 was; a trump card that lets Zoro triumph over insurmountable odds.
