@Cinera like hirezen already mentioned, he already thought like a hokage at the age of 5. He then sacrificed his clan for the greater good. I don't see any other teen doing that tbf.
I just have massive Tobirama bais ✊

@Cinera didnt hiruzen try to talk things out with the uchiha clan?

killing them off was probably the only route

> Originally he was just supposed to be evil

I think this has been exhaustively debunked? IIRC he did cry when he massacred the clan (even in the original depiction of the scene).

Kishi also stated that he had always intended for Itachi to be a double agent. I'm inclined to trust his words on that. I don't find his character nonsense either.

@Marimo_420: Yeah. He was much more mature than anyone his age had the right to be. His naivete was seeing genocide as the only solution.

@Zenos7: IIRC Danzo frustrated all such efforts (he went as far as scheming to obtain Shisui's sharingan for himself). I think peace talks could have been successful if they were willing to make concessions to the Uchiha.

Letting them get involved more in village affairs (taking on regular missions and not just the police force for example) would have helped. Something that I have seen be successfully executed in fanfiction is an arrangement were Itachi is groomed to be the fifth Hokage.

That would have satisfied the Uchiha's desire for recognition and respect, would have ensured peace and would have been great for Konoha as Itachi would have been a wonderful 5th Hokage.

TAC is the greatest Nardo expert here so I trust him too :D

Imagine trying to start a civil war due to not getting enough recognition. These Uchihas man. 😂
Tobi recognised their strength, so he made them enforcers within the village as a sign of trust.
And did they ever mentioned what happened to the Senju? They just kinda died out without a war, and tsunade was the only one remaining?

As far as I know, Kishi said he never intended for him to be “good” originally. Maybe I have the wrong info.
Either way, I’m glad someone enjoys him. For me he and Sasuke take the nonsense crown.

I rather enjoyed the process that led Sasuke to turn evil but it's the opposite /reversal process that didn't convince me :P

Agreed, he was great while on the revenge path. After that it’s just bollocks
Natalija

It’s the Itachi rewriting which caused the bollocks as well :’)

Naruto himself was the worst. All that 'hardwork' bs just to later find out that -not only is he the son of the fourth, an uzumaki (decent clan later on), became the child of prophecy, and was a jinchuriki; he was also the reincarnation of Ashura. Perfect.

Naruto was great up until mastering sage mode. It’s Kurama that kinda made all his training pointless. But at least Naruto was consistent in his goals and behaviour, while Sasuke is all over the place
Cinera

> And did they ever mentioned what happened to the Senju?

@Marimo_420: I think they intermarried with the other clans or similar. They didn't stay isolated the way the Uchiha did. Deaths may have played a part in it as well.

Take this with a grain of salt though, I've read over ten million words of Naruto fanfic at this point, and I often have a hard time distinguishing fanon from canon.

@Natalija: What was mentioned in the Reddit thread was that he intended for him to be a double agent. That is not confirmation that he was intended to be "good", but he does suggest that the Uchiha massacre not being a bout of insanity was always planned.
Cinera
Cinera

@Natalija: He wasn't rewritten. Besides, almost all of Itachi's character was fleshed out postskip (after any hypothetical rewriting would have occurred), so accusing the (nonexistent) rewriting of causing Sasuke's mess doesn't make sense? Itachi's character was fleshed out long before Sasuke left Orochimaru.
