CineraFurthermore, IIRC you believe that Mihawk doesn't fight Shanks anymore because he lost an arm. If Zoro truly lost an eye, then the same logic should apply. A one eyed Zoro would be beneath his potential strength had he never lost the eye (especially as depth perception is important for swordsmen).
CineraI think people just don't want to see eye powers in One Piece and that's why they're railing against it so strongly. In actuality, based on the information we have so far, it's really unlikely that Zoro is actually blind. There isn't actually precedent for important characters with eye scars to have lost their eyes due to conflict.
CineraThat none of the Strawhats has asked Zoro about it (at least on panel) suggests that Oda is holding off on revealing the truth about Zoro's eye. There wouldn't be much reason to do this if he's just blind.
I don't know what the deal with Zoro's eyes are, I don't really have a horse in the race either, but as best as I can tell, it's unlikely that he's just blind.
CineraThis post is a good counterargument. Oda had always intended for Zoro to receive a new permanent scar from his training. It would serve to indicate how tough his training was.
Charlotte HorchataMaybe it's also an aesthetical choice to stress the whole "right and left wing" with Sanji since now each of them has one "blinded" eye, while the visible one fits their positions towards Luffy?
NatalijaI think it’s safe to say his eye is hurt so he doesn’t open it?
I really doubt anything “ocular” would happen in OP. This ain’t Naruto for him to implant Rinnegan.
Natalija@Cinera I agree that no mentions or explanations of it are quite weird, and are probably going to lead to something. A hawk eye? :D
Cinera@Charlotte Horchata Sanji's eye isn't blinded though? I don't think that argument works at all. An aesthetic choice to keep his eye closed doesn't require him to be blind.
Cinera> I think it’s safe to say his eye is hurt so he doesn’t open it?
@Natalija: I don't. Other characters with much deeper scars didn't lose their eye, so Zoro losing it would be on priors surprising. Issho is the only one who lost his eyes, but he removed them himself, so it's not comparable.
NatalijaAn injury is enough to have Zoro’s eye closed. If his eye is cut, he can’t see.
Cinera> I really doubt anything “ocular” would happen in OP. This ain’t Naruto for him to implant Rinnegan.
I don't have strong feelings one way or another on this, but Asura doesn't really fit any of the established power systems in One Piece. It's not a devil fruit ability, and it didn't appear to be an application of haki (at least preskip).
CineraThe only other ability similar to it is Cavendish's Hakuba and his eye does change shape whenever he uses it.
I think something demon related might actually fit with the OP world (even though folks would dislike it).
Cinera> An injury is enough to have Zoro’s eye closed. If his eye is cut, he can’t see.
You're suggesting Zoro's eye is damaged but he isn't blind in it?
I think my argument about Kidd, Shanks and Rayleigh (especially the first two) having much deeper scars yet retaining sight remains.
