IIRC Kuzan's justice was initially "Burning Justice", but it became "Lazy" after the Ohara incident. Borsalino's "Uncertain" reflects that he isn't sure which path is correct between Sakazuki and Kuzan.

I'm not so sure Sakazuki's Absolute Justice is a result of a tragic past. However, it does seem likely on priors (especially considering that most fleshed out OP characters have backstories that were deeply impactful on how they turned out).

Hmm, Kuzan currently has a lazy approach to Justice but he was previously a fire brand like Sakazuki. He doesn't fit the template for someone with a very tragic backstory. I mentioned him as a counterexample.

The most cruel characters always have the most tragic past, that is simply a given. The way Oda drew him as a kid is also kinda telling, be sure.
