Luffy was not using FS in that scene too, since he was angry that Kaido had apparently killed his crew by busting up that mountain.
When he did use FS, even base Luffy "partially-dodged" Kaido's TB and g2 Luffy dodged it comfortably. Naturally, Kata would perform better.

I think Marco and the Seraphim are shining examples of why the YC1 are highly underrated. People shit a brick if you tell them that Katakuri would be a real issue for top tiers, when Marco legit went up against 5 top tiers and was completely fine, and now the Seraphim durability is a big problem for top tiers as well.

The Seraphim have the combat abilities of Warlords... but that aside, the Lunarian ability or the Phoenix regeneration are mere annoyances to top tiers tbh. Same as Kata's FS.

In fact, to me it proves the opposite point Lee... that these guys are not really at the level of top tiers in terms of combat ability and can stall for sometime. (2/2)

You act like those gimmicks aren’t that relevant though. The Seraphim were a huge issue for Luffy and Zoro both, even Bound Man and Lucci combo attacking couldn’t scratch S Bear at all.
We also saw Marco defeating Big Mom’s homies, King has magma like flame when standard fire was already a relevant weapon against Kaido, Queen has lasers when Franky’s lasers spooked Big Mom, Katakuri is faster than Snake Man which-

Ability to not do critical damage downplays how much of a problem these YC1 actually represent against top tiers. It was foreshadowed in those moments I cited above that YC1 may be able to have a drawn out battle with a top tier depending on stamina. What do you call someone that can have a drawn out battle with a top tier and give them legitimate trouble?

Well yeah, the Seraphim are an issue to anyone because they are simply "Invincible" when their flames are on.
Like, nothing can really damage them in that form and hence why it's a perfect stalling ability.

And by combat ability, i'm talking about their DFs, their Haki game and their fighting styles.
Take Kaido f.ex., with one of the strongest zoans, skysplitting CoC/FS and his martial arts with the Kanobo.
Or any Admiral... with their natural disaster-like DFs combined with their unique fighting styles (strongest defense for Kizaru, battleship bags for Aokiji).
These guys are capable of far more damage, destruction-

Most Commander's powersets revolve around someway to avoid damage, be it FS or biscuits or Phx regen or Diamond skin or Lunarian ability or Invisibility...
And depending on the matchup with a top tier, these guys can be a big annoyance.
But they cannot actually do things that top tiers can or be a threat on the level of an Emperor or an Admiral.

My issue is that the same gaps seem to exist between the YC1 and the YC3. Take King vs Jack for example.
King has: Lunarian genes (peak), a peak Ancient Zoan (flying/carnivorous) with which he pulls of quasi-awakening Zoan shit, and swordsmanship comparable to rooftop Zoro.
Jack has: fishman genes (good not great), a good or standard Ancient Zoan with nothing beyond hybrid, swordsmanship ~< to Asura Doji. (1)

Definitely not saying he would win but YC1 are not just effortless one shots for top tiers, Marco gave trouble to every top tier and their mother and Kuri is on a similar level. Definitely not saying Katakuri wins but he isn’t some casual one shot for any top tier bar *maybe* Kizaru who has a good matchup against Kuri
