I think we'll get that edge once they start fighting. I'm enjoying the character building Oda is doing for these guys. IMO that means he wants us to know a bit more about them, they're not trash to be forgotten

Nah @Fujishiro I don’t think the anime really got better at all. Not until the beginning of the Chimaera Ant arc which was the first HxH arc which had the potential to be better than simply “good”, but then the climax of Chimaera Ant was utterly horrible. The big battle begins with all the high level hunters raiding the CA HQ and then the battle just goes absolutely nowhere with constant flippant distracting(1)

Sub plots that go nowhere. One second we’re getting Meryem vs Netero, then the next we’re getting a retarded subplot with Poif cumming himself over Marine feeding off of his energy and Poof racing to hide the chess set because Meruem lost his memory (???????)(2)

HxH was just weird af to me. It was desperate to be unpredictable to the point of hilarity, unpredictable shit was happening simply because it was unpredictable and not because it was all that good imo.(3)

Wdym they go nowhere? They all got resolved. Killing Komugi at the time Meruem lost his memory was the best opportunity. He wanted the King to be the King, not Meruem lol.

They must be accustomed to dirty schemes and lazy fighting with their quirky df powers
Sommers got a sword and all but how good is he, definitely not on the level of someone like Vista

@Fujishiro it was almost like if right after Whitebeard’s death at Marineford, we went into a sub plot about Blackbeard losing his memory and then we get a Lafitte side quest where he’s got to destroy something that will fundamentally alter Blackbeard’s personality. It would just feel so bizzare and completely out of place given what just happened, like Whitebeard vs Blackbeard wasn’t naturally flowing in to such(1)
