critical mindsetIs this directed at me maybe? It's because it's entertaining for one, and to prove a point that is called the truth :)
Jew D. Boy@critical mindset This was not written with you specifically in mind, I’m just stunned how some people can argue the same shit every day without running out of steam. In some ways, I admire them for having that much energy 😕
Dark AdmiralCause they want to find other people who are just as delusional as them. Sadly enough, it doesn’t work like that..!!
Adam 🍎I presume because they got nothing better to do
dirtyLarryFrom a psychological standpoint it's rather simple:
Usually those people have a rather low self-esteem. They use fictional characters and identify themself with them. The "traits" of the fictional character are then projected on ones own personality and they feel better. If someone criticizes their favorite character, they basically see it as an attack on their own personality and they start getting very defensive.
dirtyLarryIn order to elevate ones own self-esteem again, the favorite character of the guy, who criticized their own favorite, is attacked as a reaction. This is done in order to downgrade the favorite character of the other guy, which is perceived as basically downgrading the "opponents" personality in order to elevate yourself above said "opponent" once more.
The other guy usually fights back, too. A toxic circle is born.
Jew D. BoyI should add that this all makes sense to me, @dirtyLarry...I understand tying your identity to something and therefore wanting to defend it and yourself, but at what point does someone look at themselves on here and say “Nobody’s listening, most people don’t care; what’s the point??”

critical mindsetWhat does psychology have to say about the personal characteristics of people who likes using armchair psychology to try to figure out unknown people on the internet? Lol, it varies from person to person
BlackbeardThe answer is not complicated at all, you can find it on the last page of chapter 15/part 3 of @Admiral Lee Hung's S&A manga.
dirtyLarryThe reason why one fights over a fictional character on the internet doesn't vary all that much from person to person. The reason I outlined above is not "armchair psychology", it's basically the one explanation here. Thankfully this topic (internet fighting over something) is also rather simple, so that you learn this at the most basic psychology courses at university.
dirtyLarryI might have to add that I was also kind of a dickhead at times in the past and took part in those toxic discussions. You mature over time though and looking back in retroperspective the reasons I stated above were 100% true in my case. I would've never admitted it back then though. Today I can laugh about it.
Natalija@dirtyLarry You're not wrong, but also it's not a negative thing (if not impolite) for maturing. It's good for young minds to practice debates and analysis, keeps them sharp for doing it in the real world. You won't get far in life if you can't be persuasive and observant etc.
