Khamenei's assassination won't destroy the regime, he'll just be replaced. It won't stop the regime from seeking nuclear weapons either, in fact, it's more likely to do the opposite, incentivize them to obtain nuclear weapons even sooner, as they're the only true deterrence to US intervention, North Korea and Russia prove that.

1) Killing Khamenai doesn't result in regime change. The regime is still very much there.
2) That "crazy mullah" issued a Fatwa against nuclear weaponry. His death makes Iranian nukes far more likely.
3) The Iranians got like 4 dudes in succession after him. Forget a drone strike, the man was 86 with lifelong health problems.
4) Khamenei gets the martyrdom he openly wished to receive.

@Jesse Pinkman I don't think Iran posed any real threat to US, they are looking for being a regional power. They were of no threat to anyone except Israel and maybe Saudi.
Anyway, I'm an outsider looking into this without any strong leaning to either side. If Shah gets back in, probably will be worth it for all parties involved. If he gets replaced by another mulla or something, back to square one with a delay IG.
