No, never once has he shown fear in the flashback. He showed concern and cautiousness which oden showed the same amount of by trying to kill him in his sleep/drunk and writting that letter to toki in case he couldn’t do it. He also accepted orochis offer because kaido was a tough opponent for him and there would’ve been casualties no matter who won. In fact in the flashback kaido never said they would’ve lost against

Oden if he decided to rally the samurai right then and then and fight. He just said that it would’ve been a difficult battle thus the smartest thing to do was to make it easier.
Also, they fought in the castle and kaido was fighting him off just fine. The only thing oden ever did to him was injure him in his dragon form. The same one luffy was ping ponging around, it is clearly not fit for 1vs1s.

I never said kaido wasn’t focused on oden and scabbards, I said he was careless cause he thought himself invincible and his scuffle with oden in the castle only reinforced that feeling.
