I doubt he has killed anybody, but if he did, he did that to pirates and bandits. And even in OPverse, they are still bad.

Garp is no saint, he let the WG used his image and actions fro their propaganda. And he never quit. But he saves a lot of people from pirates, bad guys etc during all his carrer. He is grey

He could have chosen the Yonko like path : gather powerful people and protected a place or kingdom or islands and "rule" it peacefuly. Or the Dragon path : revolution.

There is only one man who is in the good for real : Dragon.

Garp knows more about the World's history than anybody else, being part of almost every major event in the last 40 years.

Yet he hasn't rebelled against the WG. Which means that the WG is a necessary evil that Garp is conflicted about. [Or that he sleeps during flashbacks too]

Maybe Garp thought at that time that the WG was too powerful and granted some kind of balance in the world. And he maybe thought that he can save more people inside the WG than outside. But Dragon thought otherwise and took actions for a greater world.

I expect a twist near the end. May be the Ancient Kingdom won the war by actually vanishing into the 20 Kingdom who battled them.

In reality, the people of the Ancient kingdom rule the world.

Presumption, we don't know the entire story or Garp reasons. There's definitely more to it.

He probably should of helped Ace and resign from Marine
M
MD Zolo
I have no sympathy for Ace regarding that situation. Garp was a Marine and Ace knew that he would place Garp in a predicament. Yet he chose to be a pirate.

If Ace can prioritize his goals, Garp is free to prioritize his. In fact, I don't think I will have any less respect for Garp even if he let's Luffy die.

There is no need to save disobedient children.

@MD Zolo That actually made me dislike Ace even more. He held Whitebeard as his father after spending a year or two with him, holding him in the highest regard. But completely disregarded Garp, the guy who spent years with him, providing him an environment where he could grow to be strong, then personally training them.

He also never showed a single care in the world for putting Garp in a tough situation.

Garp’s ‘caring for Ace’ is pretty much child abuse. He leaves Ace with a group of bandits and when he does comes to visit Ace, Garp just keeps on punching Ace....then he wonders why Ace didn’t want to be a marine 😑

You can’t just abuse your child and neglect them then say that they’re disobedient when you don’t know what parenting is
M
MD Zolo
Not sure if it was a dig at me, but the point remains.

1. Either Garp took care of Ace and Ace did him dirty.
2. Or Garp didn't take care of him and wasn't responsible for what happens to him.

In both cases, Garp is not obligated to save Ace.
Kiwipom

Nah, I was just saying that Garp abuses children and he didn’t really put in an effort to make Ace a marine.

So it’s case 2, and yeah, Garp wasn’t obligated to save Ace. But then I don’t understand why he tried to kill Akainu after Ace’s death lmao
M
MD Zolo
That part was stupid. Before that, it was clear that Garp had accepted whatever Ace's fate may be. So him attacking Akainu was incongruous.

So, spur of the moment?!

Maybe he thought that he would of been cool with Ace dying but when Ace died for real, he was more affected than he thought

If he made up his mind earlier, Ace would of probably been alive T-T

@Kiwipom I don't think it's fair to say that's child abuse. I mean sure if you go by real life, that could qualify as child abuse. However, in the world of One Piece, they were better off because of what Garp put them through so they could stand toe to toe with the monsters. He left Ace there because it was the best spot to keep him out of site, atleast that he knew of.

He also had meaningful conversations with Ace

@Xione In Water 7 Luffy was telling the crew about how Garp ‘training’ almost killed him. Garp basically threw a kid into a jungle, tied him to balloons etc. Even for OP standard, that’s not normal. Ace probably went through the same thing. If Garp didn’t want them to be pirates, he could of tried talking but ‘lemme beat some sense into you’ is pretty abusive.
Xione
Xione
Yea almost killed him, but Garp had faith in Luffy. It's only because of that training that no matter what obstacle comes Luffy's way he doesn't care. That's also where he got his no fear of death, because Garp put him through near-death situations that he had to overcome. In a world filled with people who can wipe out your entire island on a whim, I'd say that's the type of father you would want.
Xione
Xione
And I think it's already implied he tried explaining to them to become Marines, but they just wouldn't listen at all. So he tried forcing it, wanting to keep them safe because of their fathers being the two most sought after criminals.

He’s clearly doing something wrong tho
His son became the leader of the revolutionary army
His adopted grandson joined the WB pirates
His grandson is on a journey to become PK

He trained them to be strong but Luffy wanted to be like Shanks, Ace like WB, they weren’t inspired by Garp since he didn’t do much other than make them scared of him
