Akai2No problem. I was glad Haoshoku tagged me cause I rarely check discussion threads on my own anymore lol
Ok I see, I usually need to reread events before discussing specifics cause my weeb memory is bad 🤣.
Either way, I just fundamentally disagree with how you'd evaluate a character. Particular character aside.
Akai2And when I cosigned with other posters about particulars, I wasn't including some of the personal barbs that were thrown your way.
The thread was aggressive but it was directed at characters/author not users here. So that was kinda unfair imo.
Den_Den_MushiI mostly have a problem with Oda's writing, not the character himself. WB was fine, it's that plot events that were poorly integrated into his backstory make him look like a scumbag.
Oden being dead is a terrible argument for not intervening in Wano. Hell, WB even wanted to intervene, but his reasoning made no sense. Let Kaido get stronger while he himself wastes away from illness and old age? Wtf?
Akai2As a political leader, given the knowledge gained from Roger about Wano/Joy Boy etc, his reasoning was sound. If u remove the will of D lore from the equation, and view things from a material pragmatic standpoint of course it doesn't add up.
Akai2Oden refused outside help for a reason. I remember writing about this a few months back (https://bit.ly/3rdbOAS) And this is why Toki is the biggest wasted potential character probably in the entire manga. Travelling 800 years looking for Joy Boy and we get 0 lore information from her.
Den_Den_MushiEven so, as a human being he would have been in the wrong to let people suffer and starve for 20 years because of some prophecy. With or without the Will of D, it doesn’t allow him to abdicate his moral obligations.
Den_Den_MushiOden was also a dumbass and I’ve criticised him relentlessly. He allowed Kaido to take the entire country hostage for decades, causing thousands of casualties from forced labour, starvation and poisoning to save 100 randos. Absolute madness.
The entire thing makes no sense and prophecies are stupid. The theme of the series is freedom but it seems freedom to determine fate comes second to prophecies.
