I've substantially raised my estimate of Oden (he was _at least_ a mid top tier and may have been a high top tier, this becomes more likely if Kaido doesn't reveal hybrid mode). 1001 showed that Oden stood on a very rarefied pedestal.

Even if Zoro is the MVP vs Kaido, he wouldn't be putting in the majority of the work (Luffy would probably outperform, but there's also Kidd, Killer and Law).

If Zoro and Luffy are responsible for like 90% of the damage done to Kaido, I can see Zoro dealing 40% - 50%.

Zoro may yet leave Wano a top tier and even slay Kaido, but it would be in a team fight. Oden could have felled Kaido by himself.

Look at this way wouldn’t that speak levels about post wano zoro? if kaido is looking for a swordsman like oden and we know zoro is it and he eventually quells kaidos thirst and more wouldn’t he automatically be on that pedestal and higher. it’s all what ifs there’s no concrete saying zoro can’t do more work than luffy. Big mom is there for luffy

Oden was swatted like a fly by Roger and WB. Kaido was not in his prime. You're overestimating Oden. At best he was YC1. According to Sengoku, Kaido/BM are much stronger now.

Well I'm still on the fence about that(Zoro surpassing Oden,there are good arguments for and some against) but what I know is Oden was no low top tier as you rightly said,that guy is a mid top tier in my book at the very least and the only admirals I would give the advantage against him is Akainu (and maybe Kizaru).

I can put Zoro above Oden this arc as long as a particular twist occurs, which is related to how much power he can still unleash. Manga is portraying both to stand on a similar footground as of now.

Oden is on a pedastal because of Oda and Kaido. Kaido was traumatized by Oden and his Ryuo. There hasn't been anyone like him in twenty years. While living in an isolationist nation, I'd expect him to focus on Wano and not the World, and that's why he never met Mihawk, Bogard, Vista, Rayleigh, Zoro, etc..., where I'm sure they come close to Oden.
