I guess Killer's impressive Sonic Scythe is a reason to expect Kidd to be capable of much greater AP than has been demonstrated so far. However, I'm not one of those that thinks Kidd must be much stronger than Killer by virtue of being his captain.

As I understand it, the only argument in Kidd's favour is some headcanon about his role in the story and a rivalry with Luffy.

The last 3 chapters have however been providing evidence against the headcanon.

In Chapter 1001 Luffy was singled out and specially complimented by Kaido.
In Chapter 1002, Zoro was singled out with his offensive prowess being great enough to terrify Big Mom. She further commented that Kaido greatly underestimated Zoro.

the perceived rivalry with luffy and therefore the projection of kid = luffy has to do with it for sure. I would guess kid having CoC is also a factor why some believe so.

If Kidd was to be Luffy's rival and receive portrayal above Zoro (his feats have been very underwhelming TBH), this is not what I would expect to see.

Kidd was overshadowed by Zoro in this chapter, and the setup around Enma, Oden, Kaido, Zoro and Dragons makes me think this will continue to be true.

Even Big Mom is much more concerned about Zoro than Kidd.

Kidd will most likely outshine Killer and Law, but him outshining Zoro is becoming less credible with every chapter.

Zoro has saved Luffy twice and terrified Big Mom, causing her to warn Kaido to dodge and chastising him for greatly underestimating Zoro.

I don't see how trying to crush Kaido or slamming him into the ground is meant to compare.

Lol kidd didn't dodge go they are metals.
He is the only one to react and block Shirakawa...something even luffy couldn't do
Shive is faster than that wind attack.

Next up,
What did zoro do? Nobody singled out Zoro this chapter. He did no damage to Kaido.

Zoro is slow in attack speed and movement that he needs a boost but still misses to land a solo attack.

Last but not least, Oda still had him zapped like Killer

The last ones to land hits on Kaido will be Kidd and Luffy
Zoro will reopen the scar but then koed ..
Kaido gets up and it is up to SN duo to land their finishers or fight base/hybrid kaido.

Let Zoro outshine Killer first.

But you have to be honest: Kidd literally managed to injure Kaido by slamming him onto the ground. He has no ryuo besides. Look at Kuri Luffy, he couldn't even scratch BASE KAIDO with Kong Organ.

I think Kidd's AP is noteworthy; ofc not on the same level as Zoro but still damn impressive, considering that he only has basic CoA.
