Den_Den_MushiDamn that is a coincidence lol. What kind of character is your Zinnia? Is this an Op fic or something else?
I’m always very flattered by your compliments, I’m always glad to hear people are enjoying my writing! What did you think of Zinnia and Alder as characters? I wanted them to be distinct from the other marines we’ve met so far, I personally find the likes of Hina and Helmeppo pretty boring for the most part.
Jew D. BoyFuck, I wrote this before I read Alder’s backstory...absolutely heartbreaking, and VERY foreboding for Iris! Now that she and Zinnia have had a heart to heart, I can’t wait to see how you eventually bring the three of them together (and how the girl in the middle will react) 😬
Jew D. BoyZinnia and Alder definitely feel more relatable and fleshed out than most big Marines; you can tell they’re powerful, but the trauma and loss they’ve experienced give them more motivation than purely following Absolute Justice. Referencing a major touchstone from the canon to support their characterization is a bold move, but I trust you’ll pull it off with aplomb 😏
Jew D. BoyAlso, my Zinnia isn’t completely figured out yet...she’s actually a new character in the second of a series of novels I’ve been writing. Still trying to decide which side she’s on in regards to the various factions in the story, but honestly, none of it is half as good as the work you’re putting out!
Den_Den_MushiIf you ever want me to have a look at what you’ve written, I’d be more than happy to any time 😊 I wanted to create an antagonist with very personal reasons for opposing Iris and co, and a big theme of the story is going to be how the characters try to make up for the mistakes they and others have made in the past.
Den_Den_MushiAlder is more Mihawk’s ideological opponent than Iris’s and Zinnia isn’t even really antagonistic, she’s more of a Coby or a Kuzan in terms of where she stands on the morality scale. I do plan to write her and Iris working together in at least one arc so look forward to that!
I wanted Alder to be what Mihawk would have become without Zoro, Perona and Iris in his life.
Den_Den_MushiMihawk let go of his past and moved on while Alder can’t move on and appreciate what he still has left. Something like what would have happened to Luffy if Jinbe hadn’t given him that sage advice after Ace’s death.

BallelYou guys write actual novels?? Omg where can I buy them??
Jew D. BoyI definitely got the sense that Mihawk has become as unburdened by Shanks’s death as is possible for him, and Alder can’t let Clover go after this much time has passed, so pitting them against each other should definitely be an emotional and poignant clash when it actually happens. You don’t have to confirm or deny, but I imagine Alder will be getting a redemption arc in the course of pursuing Iris or her father 🤔
